A FEW THINGS ABOUT
  THE MISTRESS SCARLET

Mistress Scarlet De Medici was born in 1959 in the Eastern United States. She is well travelled and has lived in many beautiful and interesting places, including Maui, San Francisco, and NYC. She currently makes her home in Austin, Texas, where she has lived since 1992.

Mistress Scarlet's interest in bondage and discipline as a form of creative play began almost 20 years ago, although in the early days it took her some time to develop the courage to explore the scene. Her first experience with B&D 'pros' took place at the Backdrop Club in Mountainview, CA (actually in those days it was located in Redwood City). Not surprisingly, Mistress Scarlet started as a bottom and worked her way up to the top! At the Backdrop, she had a chance to learn about pacing, equipment, style, and the ins and outs of professional B&D. Needless to say, it was an enlightening apprenticeship. However, there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then.....

In the early '80's, while living on Maui, Scarlet had the opportunity to study creative visualization and yoga with a pair of talented teachers. This experience opened the door to the world of metaphysics and feminist spirituality. Her thirst for knowledge, understanding, and true wisdom brought her many miles up the road toward her truth. (She wouldn't want to say that her truth is 'the truth' - your truth might be considerably different!)

Scarlet De Medici is a professional artist as well as a professional dominant. She writes, paints, acts, directs and teaches; in Austin and around the USA. To Mistress Scarlet, Art = Life, and vice versa (or vice well versed). She has been known to teach (everything from yoga to bondage & discipline safety skills).  She is a sex-educator and the designer of the popular "Dare To Be Dominant" workshops, a sexy educational forum for people who want to play but don't know how to get started. Because Mistress Scarlet has gained self knowledge and joy from the acknowledgement of the part of her that enjoys B&D, she wants to pass the gift on to others. Self awareness leads to self initiation which leads to balanced personal power. Would that we lived in a world where people freely accepted their basic nature and worked to develop the knowledge of self that leads to true freedom!

Mistress Scarlet is an outspoken feminist and activist. Issues concerning freedom of expression in all mediums are of the greatest concern. Feminism is a balanced response to an androcentric (male-centered) world. Scarlet is not a female supremicist (sorry if you are disappointed) but instead believes that gender is not a factor that should determine cultural roles. Gender roles are quite a prison for those who do not fit neatly within their limiting boundaries. The gift of feminism is:  CHOICE!

Many people have asked Mistress Scarlet how she reconciles her personal politics with her chosen profession. Mistress Scarlet does not see a great contradiction. What Mistress Scarlet does with her clients is a form of consensual role play, freely chosen and entered into by all participants. She provides a comfortably safe forum for individuals who wish to explore the range of their darkest desires, without judgement as to their political correctness or any other such nonsense. We are all born with a certain amount of information set into the hardwiring. Ego, basic nature, and sexual desire are included therein. Just as modern research is now hot on the trail of the 'gay gene', it seems highly likely that in our lifetimes research will show that the desire to explore fantasies of dominance and submission are also genetic, as opposed to culturally created. Unfortunately, the perceived parameters of 'social normatives' suggest to many that their desires are abnormal and thus, shameful. Many people who feel these desires live in denial or fear that they will be found out and shunned by their loved ones. Mistress Scarlet seeks to provide compassionate counseling to those who are suffering from guilt and shame, so that they may come to self acceptance and perhaps become one of her proud and happy clients. Naturally, Mistress Scarlet is particularly pleased to meet pre-informed self-aware articulate submissives who are seeking pure pleasure!
